To be eligible to apply, you need to be nominated by an Australian State or Territory and be invited by the Department of Home Affairs.
Your occupation must be on the relevant skilled list and you need to have a positive skills assessment for the occupation.

A provisional visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
You need to:
- have an occupation must be on the relevant skilled list
- satisfy the points test
- be nominated by an Australian State or Territory or be sponsored by an eligible relative
- be invited by the Department of Home Affairs
The permanent stage of this visa is the Skilled Regional visa - subclass 887, available after at least 2 years of residence in a regional or designated area and at least 12 months of full-time work.
This is one of the new regional visas for skilled migrants and it allows you to live and work temporarily in Australia.
To be eligible to apply, you need to
- have an occupation on the relevant skilled list
- satisfy the points test
- be nominated by an Australian State or Territory or be sponsored by an eligible relative
- be invited by the Department of Home Affairs
You can access the permanent stage (Skilled Regional sc191 visa) after 3 years, provided the requirements have been met.

This permanent visa is designed for internationally recognised talents, with a record of exceptional and significant achievement in a profession, a sport, the arts or academia and research.
The nominator must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen or an Australian organisation nationally recognised in the same field.
